This documentary about “Big Sugar”, by Brian McKenna, is not new, but it’s a real eye-opener. The doc covers the early days of the sugar industry (with its ties to slavery) up to the modern era (and its effects on Florida’s everglades and politics). Definitely a must-watch.
If you’re interested in finding out more on the topic, by the way, there is a great article written by Keri Handry that discusses the industry’s impact on South Florida, including its effect on the water supply, wildlife and nature.
