I had a little dialog before making this sandwich that I want to share…

While I started to prepare for this sandwich, I was with my mom, as she walked into the kitchen she asked…

Mom: “Hey what are you making?”

Lus: “Uh…you don’t wanna know what I’m making…”

Mom: “Why not?”

Lus: “Well I’m making the Elvis sandwich…you know…peanut butter…banana…and bacon…grilled/fried in the pan…”

Mom: “You think it’s gonna be good?”

Lus: “Well if it was good enough for Elvis Presley, it’s good enough for me”

Mom: “You know…Elvis died too young…”

Lus: “Yeah, but I think it was the drugs…”

The peanut butter and banana sandwich with bacon has been referred to as a favorite of Elvis Presley, who was renowned for his food cravings. He would enjoy such concoctions as the “Fool’s Gold Loaf”, which consisted of a loaf of Italian bread filled with a pound of bacon, peanut butter, and grape jelly or jam.

A news report suggests that, based on renditions of sandwiches named after him, Presley ate his peanut butter, banana, and bacon sandwiches with caramelized bananas and crispy bacon on grilled Hawaiian bread, and grilled by his mother or his cook in bacon fat.

Unfortunately I have my limits, I didn’t want to use bacon fat to fry this baby up, because well I am semi-conscious of what I eat…believe it or not…

Type of Cuisine: The King’s favorite snack…if that was an actual category, that is where this sandwich would belong.

Where did you have it: I made it for the first time for this post, but I will likely be making it again, to cure hangovers or just one of those cravings you get that has to be filled…mmmm it was good

How much?: The good news is it doesn’t cost a king’s ransom…yeah I know…that was lame, but it’s the truth. The most expensive part of this sandwich is the bacon. The whole thing can be made for under $2, if you get fancy with the bacon, bread, peanut butter etc then the price will follow.

Rate it 1 to 10 : First attempt was a solid 8 on 10, but I will perfect my method for this sandwich and I will get to the perfect 10…and it won’t be hard…
