McDees Fails at Beef, Twitter

McDonalds

Sharing is Caring...

Some disgusting, disturbing and disappointing (a new “Triple D”? Food Network, call me) news from McDonald’s:

The fast food giant have announced that they are discontinuing the use of ammonium hydroxide as a processor in their U.S. beef. If you recall, Jamie Oliver has lobbied the company to eliminate this “ingredient”, as it results in a beef product he likened to “pink slime”. “We’re taking a product that would be sold at the cheapest form for dogs and after this process we can give it to humans,” he said on Food Revolution.

The purpose of ammonium hydroxide in McDonald’s beef is to eliminate bacteria like E.coli. It is not used at Canadian McDonald’s.

Check out the video from that episode of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution:

Elsewhere in the McDees universe, an attempt at a Twitter marketing campaign backfired horribly last week. The initial idea was to promote the coporation’s “farmers” with a #MeetTheFarmers hashtag. This was followed by this tweet: ‘When u make something w/pride, people can taste it,’ – McD potato supplier #McDStories http://t.co/HaPM5G9F’

That #McDStories hashtag? Yeah, within minutes, people were using it to describe some of their more “colourful” experiences at the arches.

McDees Stories

McD Story

Some of the worst (according to the Daily Mail, personally I think they’re great),

@MuzzaFuzza ‘I haven’t been to McDonalds in years, because I’d rather eat my own diarrhea.’

@nelo_taylor ‘These #McDStories never get old, kinda like a box of McDonald’s 10 piece’

LOL

What do you think?
