I once ordered a pizza in Florence, Italy. A teenage kid on a Vespa delivered it 30 minutes later. The box of pizza was on his lap. “Take it please, it’s very hot,” he said, rubbing his thighs with obvious concern. It was the first time I’d seen a delivery man use a two-wheel vehicle, and, except for the bodily injury, it seemed like a good idea (better on fuel, easier to manoeuvre and they don’t have to be double parked). Why, I’ve always wondered, has this not taken off in North America?
Well, taking the slogan “have it your way” to its logical, fat-drenched conclusion, Burger King is test running a bike delivery service, presumably so you can get heart-disease sent right to your door.
Check out this news report on the door-to-door whopper idea:
Burger King Testing Home Delivery Service: MyFoxDETROIT.com
Burger King was recently purchased by 3G Capital Inc., a New York-based private equity firm, and it looks like they’ve been going through something of an identity crisis, adding health food options (“real fruit” strawberry smoothies, Asian chicken salads and oatmeal) and dropping the ad agency that came up with that creepy king character.
The company’s delivery service will only let costumers within a ten minute drive place an order. There will be an additional $2 delivery charge for the pleasure.
What do you think? Would you order Burger King?
