When it comes to food, there’s a lot to love about the holidays. There’s bountiful plates of fish, pasta and turkey (and Chinese food), and enough festive drinks and cocktails to knock out a buffalo (at least in our house). Not to be outdone, though, is panettone, boxes of which start inundating groceries stores in Italianate neighbourhoods at the start of December. What do you do with all that leftover panettone? You can do the sensible thing, which is to dip those bad boys in coffee and enjoy. You can also get elaborate, and make Panettone french toast. Or you can go at it budget style, with some seriously delicious fried panettone.

Fried Panettone Ingredients
It’s pretty simple. All you need is:
- Butter
- Slices of Panettone (preferably the plain variety)
Fried Panettone Directions
- Prepare slices of panettone (you can use chunks, but slices fry more evenly)
- Heat a knob of butter in a pan at medium heat.
- Butter one side of your panettone slices
- When the butter has dissolved, place the non-buttered sides of your panettone slices in the pan. Fry until the side has become slightly golden. Flip.
- Garnish with fresh fruit (you can also use maple syrup, though given how much sugar is already involved, it’s probably not the best idea).
- Enjoy.

This…looks…awesome.
It is. If only there wasn’t such a thing as obesity and diabetes!
