What Foods Do You Eat To Feed Your Brain
My Favorite Brain Foods
Nuts
Even the most common nuts like walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews, almonds, to more exotic seeds have been shown to clear up what I call “brain farting” when you can’t recall a word you want to use, and can’t even describe the word you are trying to find…nuts can enable you to think clearer and enhance your mood.
Berries
Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries…a diet rich in colourful fruits and vegetables helps strengthen the brain to help with memory or other cognitive skills.
Eating one cup of blueberries per day increases birth rate of brain cells in the region of your brain responsible for memory. They are also known to protect the brain from oxidative stress (antioxidant properties).
Whole Grain
Whole grain foods are not only good for lowering cholesterol but also known to be a great brain stimulator because they contains high percentage of folate which helps boost blood flow to the brain.
Seeds
Seeds such as sunflower, pumpkin, watermelon can boost your mood and brainpower. Many seeds contain tryptophan, an important amino acid that the brain converts to seratonin, which is a natural way to relieve depression. Sunflower seeds are high in a vitamin called thiamine which promotes memory and cognitive function. Pumpkin seeds are rich in many nutrients including: Zinc, Vitamin A and E, and the precious Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids.
Green Tea
Green tea enhances memory and focus and fights mental fatigue. It contains catechines, which help you relax mentally, yet also keeps your wits sharpened. It also helps maintain a positive mood, and is known to contain powerful antioxidants. Polyphenols also help the brain and body run smoothly by maintaining a steady supply of our body’s primary fuel: glucose. These powerful polyphenols also help prevent cancer and heart attacks.
This list is a work in progress…so I may update it from time to time…
