Can rotten fruit make you sick?

I was cutting into a pineapple I bought last week and some part were brownish and some looked normal. I cut away the brown parts but it got me thinking about this question. I mean I wouldn’t eat the brown parts ’cause they don’t smell appetizing, which usually means they won’t taste very good.

I’ve heard Some people say it’s ok, some people say it’s bad. What’s the truth about this? Are there bacteria we should be worried about? If so what are they?

When it comes to fruit & veg, I usually cut away any rot and salvage what’s left. The only thing I don’t risk is meat of any kind, chicken, pork, beef, fish…if it smells funky then it doesn’t go in the belly.

Hard to find a definitive answer but really if it doesn’t smell good (which rotten fruit usually doesn’t) then why would you eat it in the first place? I don’t know just curious I guess….hey but wait what about blue cheese and wine? Don’t they ferment and rot somehow? I’m confused…

Have you ever gotten sick on rotten fruit?
