Food Prices Continue to Rise

The UN has reported that on average, the food pricing globally has increased by 40% since June of 2010

Breads, grains and cereals will rise the most, with the global costs of wheat, corn and soy increasing. Analysts say the cost of meat will also rise, because livestock consume the same grains.

So economists are predicting that the cost of food could jump by another 8% in the next few months. Concentrating mainly in the area of bread, grain and cereal, with wheat, corn and soy costs are also on the rise. Analysts say the cost of meat will also rise as a consequence because livestock is mainly grain fed.

According to the latest UN projections, world population will rise from 6.8 billion today to 9.1 billion in 2050 – a third more mouths to feed than there are today. Nearly all of the population growth will occur in developing countries. Sub-Saharan Africa’s population is expected to grow the fastest (up 108 percent, 910 million people), and East and South East Asia’s the slowest (up 11 percent, 228 million).
